Shooting Affray. *Julian Cortez Shot and Serious)v Wounded In a Quarrel.Vesterdav afternoon about threemo’clock, Julian Cortez and Ponciano Guajardo, two well known Mexicans of this county, who are brothers-in-law, met on the Alice road about seven miles from Brownsville,wand got into a quarrel. Both drew their pistols and fired, with the result that Cortez received three wounds, one of which may prove fatal. Guajardo also received a slight scalp wound on one side of th3 head. The latter rode to town and surrendered to arrest. He says that Cortez first attacked jhim, and that he acted in self defense. Guajardo is a member of the local police force, and had gone to the country to get an ox, which he was driving when he met Cortez. The quarrel was about a family matter involving the ownership of some land. 'I here was one witness of the affray.Cortez was brought to town for surgical aid, and Dr. F. J. Combe attended him, The doctor reports that he has three bullet wounds, one in the right side of the face, ranging downward, one in the left leg above the knee,*and one in the right leg just above the ankle, lie also received a blow over the head. His condition ap|eafs to he very critical. He is about thirty-five years old, and has a wife and children.
