ALLEN AND BRADLEY GET LIFE SENTENCE FOR KILLING NEGROJury Finds Allen Guilty and Recommends Mercy Which Means Life Term.CONSENT VERDICTFor Bradley Was Entered This Morning and Both Will Go to Pen.A jury late yesterday afternoon brought in a verdict of guilty in the case of murder against E. O. Allen, accused of being implicated with Jack Bradley in the slaying of Lacey Mitchell near Five Forks or as it is now called “Little Jacksonville.’' The jury however recommended mercy which automatically carries life im-pisonment.The case went to the jury after argument and the charge of Judge Thomas at about four o’clock. Prior to five o’clock the jury announced a verdict and it was read to the court The sentence was imposed.This morning Attorney J. B. Edwards, representing Jack Bradley jointly indicted with Allen, requested the court to permlr a verdict to life imprisonment. The Judge consented and ten of the twelve Allen jurors were called to the box and a verdict for life imprisonment agreed to, the same evidence as the Allen trial being admitted. This means that both Allen and Bradley will go to the pen for life for the murder of the negro Lacey Mitchell, who knew facts connected with the rape charge against Price and Moore and who was slain after the commitment hearing. It ends one of the most sensational pair of casfes tried here during the term.Several other cases were tried today including one against Wash Graham charged with assault and battery. A case against three boys Charles and Cleve Hasty and Wilson Singletary charged with burglary in connection with the theft of some meat from H. P. Benton went to the jury this morning but no decision had been reached at thr^e o’clock.Another case this afternoon was that against John Jones charged with carrying concealed weapons. Miss Anne Jarrell had her first case at the local bar in this matter and conducted it admirably.
