Every story that Burton told of the murder was checked and rechecked. Every alibi was ‘ run down. Many persons named by Burton as knowing something were questioned. Working in relays, county officers worked day and night, either questioning suspects or running down clues.Those w ho took i*art were Prosecutor Emory F. Smith, A-sistant James B. Miller. Investigator Cyrus P. Kahl, Sheriff Al Brtdwell, Chief Deputy Arthur Oakes. Deputy Frank Purdy, Constable W. K. Jacobs and Special Deputies Leroy Potts. Kay Saddler and William Helsel.Deputy Oakes charged Burton with fir't degree murder last week and he if being held without bond{tending action of the grand jury.
