Unfortunately for one Beausejour business, the culprits found a new way to get in.On Friday morning, Linda Schwark, who owns the Copper Pot and Pizzeria, received a call from her alarm company. Upon showing up at the restaurant, she realized that someone had made their way in through the roof.They used a picnic table from the patio, and piled bread crates on top to gain access to the vent. Which has Schwark thinking that there was more than one person, because someone would of had to hold the crates.When she saw the table and crates pushed up against the building, she assumed it was just some kids who had been fooling around, and triggered the alarm. She didn't realize what had happened until she opened the door and saw the mess.The perpetrator entered through the vent, and then made their way through the ceiling to the bar area.He had to have fallen through, that's the way it looked, just a small little hole. I guess he panicked, because as soon as the ceiling tile came down that would have set the alarm off, explained Schwark.I figure it's a young kid, it's not anybody with experience.After an inspection of the insulation damage, the restau-Photo by Adrian AlleyneThe vent at the Copper Pot that is now secure, but the way a burglar gained access to the restaurant last week.'rant was able to reopen on Wednesday morning. But it's still a hassle for Schwark.For four bottles of booze, it can turn out to be very expensive, added Schwark.Schwark was also feeling bad for her staff who had to wait around to see what would happen next, because if the restaurant didn't reopen, they couldn't work.This isn't the first time that her restaurant has been a target for thieves. A few years ago, the window by the patio was broken, which prompted her to put bars on the windows.With bars on the windows, and an alarm system in place, it would seem that Schwark took all of the necessary precautions to protect her business.That's all I did Friday morning, I kept looking up there, and wondered, ‘how did he do it?' I just don't get it, added Schwark.She feels that whoever did it had to come prepared, because they wouldn't be able to pry open the vent with their bare hands.I am very mad. I wasn't mad at first, I figured, 'OK four bottles, no big deal.' I'm hurrying up, and cleaning up, so that when people come in I'm ready. Not knowing that there might be a threat with the insulation, said Schwark.I didn't get really mad until the next day when it hit me. That these guys caused me a lot of grief.According to Schwark, the RCMP was very thorough, and quick to arrive. Unfortunately, she feels that it may be hard to catch whoever is responsible.You know how hard it is to catch those kids... There's a lot of break-ins in this town, and that's because they get away with it. And when they do catch them, the court doesn't do anything because they're under age, added Schwark.If they punished them, maybe they would think twice about these little break-ins. But no, they know they can get away with it.
