Soldier Slain In Night Club AffrayFuneral services were held in Rockdale Monday for C. N. Knight,Jr., who was fatally stabbed in an affray at a night club near that city last Saturday night. Knight was a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hairston and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hairston of Hearne.According to reports of the fight which led to Knight’s death, it was the result of a long-standing grudge between Bill and Crump Morrison and Wayne Lawrence. Knight intervened for Lawrence and was stabbed in the leg. He bled to death in a short time.Lawrence was seriously injured in the fight and was taken to a Rockdale hospital. Knight’s brother, Bill Knight, was also slightly injured. The Morrison brothers fled in a truck and were apprehended the following morning.The slain youth had enlisted in j the air force in 1947 and had been in overseas duty. He was at home on leave and was to have reported to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio this week.Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hairston and son, Charles, and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hairston attended the funeral sendees.
