Russell Burns and Leroy Potts re* sponded- While Ridge and Ross went to Nauvoo. the other officers combed the bottomland* and searched places where Perkins was known to visit.Constable W. R. Jacobs of Lueag-ville, was the first officer on the scene and took charge, pending arrival of the sheriff. Jacobs assisted in the search. He also guarded the house until Coroner Fowler reached the scene.Had the dog’s warning been heeded. the tragedy might have been averted, the family said. Mrs. Burton said the dog barks every time someone pusses the house and she did not pay any attention to him.The dog was fastened on the east side of the house and harked when the murderer entered the west side yard.Has Nine ChildrenFerkins said he was born in Salvers, Ky.
