Joe Wellinger, a miner, and W. W. Iioyle, a B. O. S. W. b fa kern Em, got into an early morning ar-»gument Sunday which ended in a sore head for Wellinger and a fine of $5 and costs for Hoyle. It was reported for a time that Wellinger had been seriously injured.The trouble occurred at the corner of Meridian and Main streetsI about 11 o’clock Sunaay morning and according to the story told in police court this morning it started over a discussion which arose because a man who had been sent after some whiskey failed to return. Wellinger took offense when Hoyle made a remark about Wellinger’s friend, the man who had been sent after the liquor, and according to the testimony offered started after Hoyle but bystanders pulled him away. Wellinger broke loose from them and started after Hoyle again. When he got near enough Hoyle struck him with his fist. Wellinger dropped to the sidewalk and .for five minutes or over he was unconscious’ either from the force of the blow or from his head striking the cement sidewalk.Hoyle made his escape for the time being. The police were notified that Wellinger was dead and they started in hot pursuit of Hoyle. They went to the Lyons hotel, Hoyle’s boarding house, which was searched thoroughly and from there they went to the shop yards and searched them. Hoyle had concealed himself in a sewer at the Lyons hotel and eluded capture for the time being. The officers returned later from the shop yards and Wm.none the worse for the argument.thisandSat-Mc-Hoyle was fined $5 and costsmorning by the Mayor.Chief of Police McCrisaken Captain Kermode had trouble urday afternoon with George Neil and John Corbett, two boilermakers who had just reached the city but with the assistance of Warren Routt and a dray the two men were landed in jail. William Wnin-man, B. O. S. W. policeman, had trouble with thqm first in the shop yards. They proved too much for him and he went for assistance. While lie was gone the two strangers made their way to Main street and when they were near McKernan’s planing mill McCrisaken and Kermode took them in charge. Corbett♦showed fight and Warren Routt was deputized to help. McCrisaken got a badly cut hand in the mixup. Kermode succeeded in getting O’Neill as far as East Second and Main streets. O’Neill became obstreperous and Kermode had to throw him down and call a dray. With the assistance of several men O’Neil was loaded onto the dray and hauled to jail. O’Neill and Corbett were each fined $1 and costs this morning for intoxication.James Bree, George Miley, and Andrew Milton were fined $1 and costs each for intoxication. WilliamMelton pleaded not guilty and his trial was set for 1 o’clock. ”The trial of the negro crap shooters who, it is alleged, had a game on the night that Thomas Amies was cut by Will Umbles, has been set for trial at 3 o’clock this afternoon.Leslie Bingham was acquitted Saturday of the charge of assault and battery on Russell C. Shanks, a young Kermode got a tip that Hoyle was at| son of John G. Shanks of Washing-the Lyons hotel. Kermode made his ton township. He was represented second trip to the hotel and found, by John H. Spencer.Hoyle hiding behind a bedstead. He had ruined a good blue serge suitwhen he crawled into the sewer. Wellinger regained consciousness shortly after the trouble and aside from a slightly injured head, was1 Greelv Yarbrough is a boarder at the county jail for the next thirtydays. He was given a fine ot-$l and costs and a sentence of thirty days in jail aSturday morning for intoxication.
