. SETS TVO YEARS.Such U the Verdict Agminst OUrkt Spencer for Killing Jacob Holmes at DePauw. Harrison County.— • —The trial of Charles Spencer for the kill** ing of Jacob Holmes at DePauw, Harrisoncounty, in the early part of November,1888, took place in the circuit court ofCrawford county at Leavenworth, last week,the case haying been yenned from Harri*sen to that county. The trial lasted threedays, the counsel closing their argumentson Saturday evening, the 26ib. The Judge charged the jury Saturday night, and they retired to deliberate on the case. At 9 o’clock Sunday morning they agreed upon a verdict and the court convened and received it. The verdict was that Spencer was guilty of manslaugh'* ter and should receive, as punishment, a term of of two years in the Southern pria* cn.The verdict is oonsidered a very lightone, though the real facta in relation to the killing were hard to get at. Spencer claimed selfsdefenee. He will be taken to the penitentiary this week, unless a new trial is granted him, a motion for which hss been entered.
