Ohio Marshal Shoots BovMANSFIELD, Ohio ran — Richland County Sheriff Charles Stecker Saturday was investigating the alleged shooting of a 15-year-oId boy by the town marshal of nearby Lexington.The marshal Ira Sowash, has been jailed Stecker said “as much for his protection as for investigation.” The sheriff said he has received several phone calls sincethe shooting Friday night from persons protesting the incident.Marshal Sowash said in a state* ment to sheriff's deputies he fired a blast at Michael Smaltz, son of former Deput} Sheriff Norman Smaltz He said he has been both* ered by vandals and hid in his barn with a shotgun that night Sowash said three boys entered his yard but ran when he called to them. He fired at one of them,he saidSmaltz was slightly wounded ia the side He was treated at a doctor's office and sent home.
