T.:I notice that in your issue of the 17th, inst., you credit the deputies from the Paris Court with the hunting down and killing of Bill Dalton.It is time*the general idea of the killing be corrected and proper credit given.This movement had its inception with the deputies of this court alone who organized a posse to go in search of parties who had robbed a store in Texas. They induced several deputies from Paris to go with them.When this party of deputies reached the place where the robbers were supposed to be, a man ran from the house and was shot down by C. L. Hart, a deputy of this court. Not until Dalton was killed did they recognize him.It was entirely by accident that these deputies ran across part of theDalton gang. But one shot wasfired and but one man seen. When it was found that the dead man was Bill Dalton the Paris deputies claimed the credit and have worked it for all there is in it ever since.C. L.
