reward forBY SHEILA MORRISONA group of concerned residents in Stony Mountain is offering a cash reward to anyone with information that will lead to the conviction of whoever has been vandalizing the playground equipment at Stony Mountain School.Ron Dacombe, an Interlake School Division trustee and a member of the group, which he said was formed a few years ago when the Home and School Association and the baseball association got together to apply for a grant to help fund the installation of receation facilitieson the school playground.Over the last several years the group has put in baseball backstops, a slide, a play structure, football goals, contributed to the Kinsmen concession building, and has done some landscaping around the balldiamonds.Dacombe said the group,most of whom have volunteered their time and effort, is upset at having their work vandalized.“This group spent all this time putting this together. We put up a play structure in July, and by August it was already being dismantled.”He said bolts have been removed from the play structure, in one case loosening a handle that, should a child have grabbed onto it, would have come away and caused a serious fall.“We are so frustrated, so we thought we would try the reward.”The group has asked the school board for permission to put the sign up on school property.The board gave approval, however Trustee Cal Croy said he didn’t think it would have much of an effect.“If anything, it will attract vandalism, and they’ll make a point of going for the sign first.”
