Sterling, IlL, Oot, 25.—Thursday evening Guy, a son of John Briggs, residing a few miles south of this city, quarreled with James, a young son of Maurice Dunn, of near Mounds, and Jamna lator met bis elder brother, George, and told him of what had occurred and still later all parties mot and more words followed and it is claimed that Briggs called Dunn an objectionable name, whereupon GeorgeDunu assaulted him. In the scuffle that ensued Briggs drew a knife and severely stabbed the elder Dunn, inflicting a gash in his forehead aud another in the necsc, the later wound for a time being deemed dangerous, and gave himself up to the officers.A complaint was made out by Maurice Dunn and a warrant was issued against Briggs, charging defendant with assault to commit murder. He was promptly arrainged and trial set for Monday, 'November 8. Briggs gave bond in the sum of $400 for his appearance, his father and uncle, An drew Briggs being securities. Briggs is said to bo only 20 years of age and was under the influence of liquor.
