A GOOD FIND.THE SUM OP 8437.18 RECOVERED FOR THE SCHOOLFUND.By An Investigation of the Mayor’s and Other Dockets of this City. From the Daily of October 18.For the past ten days a gentleman acting under authority of the State has been making an investigation of the dockets of Mayor Day and the various Justices of the Peace in this city. He concluded his labors last night and left for his home to-day. Before going the Herald secured an interview with him as to the results, the substance of which is as follows: “The work of going through the justices’ dockets,” said the expert, “was comparatively easy, and I found in the neighborhood of §130.00 in their hands, lines and forfeitures, which was duly paid over to me and by me paid into the county treasury. The docket of Mayor Day, covering a period of over live years, was a big job, however. In addition to the sums paid into the treasury by the Mayor, I found §55.00 in his hands which should have been reported last July. An investigation also showed that there was $156.78 due the State from pro-rata collections. Both these sums Mayor Day paid to me when the matter was presented to him, although the latter sum was paid very reluctantly. I have also collected, duringmy stay, §130.79 fines found on the Mayor’s docket from replevin bail, and have left an order for executions which will probably bring the school fund §100.00 more. The total amount so far realized is §437.18, over §300.00 of which comes from the docket of the Mayor.”
