Tn Ihv KelUur.if If IK KACI.K:—Prior to the Pittsfield primary, I was asked by the Do-belle campaign committee who I supported for mayor. 1 promised an answer when the proper time came. Because the primary came out differently than 1 thought it would. 1 had to restudy the matter. I have now made my decision: Evan Du-belle should not be the next mayor of Pittsfield.Although 1 had a different preference before the primary. I think now that A1 Bogdan is the only possible choice between thetsvo. •I think that all voters —• particularly those who are members of my union — should have two facts:— If Evan Dobelle fulfilled one term as mayor, ii would be the longest job he has held in his life.— The claims he makes for his credentials are superficial.¥ •“ VFor 23 months. 1966-68, Evan was an assistant to Ally. Martin in the state attorney general's office, and then an assistant to Sen. Brooke in getting him elected by coordinating four counties and he attended Portia Law School at night while living inCambridge. For the next six months, in 1968, he was a campaign worker for Russell Pederson, who ran for governor in Delaware. For the next nine months, lie was chief deputy to the register of wills in New Castle. Del. •For 12 months he worked on and got his masters degree in education at the University of Massachusetts. 1969-70. Then, for one month, he was a research associate For the Commission on Campus Unrest. For the following nine months. 1970-71. Eviari was an associate superintendent in teacher education at Temple City Unified School District in California, and taught at California State College in Los Angeles.During the next three months. September to December 1971.Evan was an administrator at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a doctoral student. For 14 months. December 1971 to February 1973. he was an executive assistant to Sen. Brooke in the Boston office. In February of this year he became a Republican candidate for the state Senate. Then in May he formed the consulting firm of Wilmington. Stonewall Associates, of which he is the only member.Alt of the above facts, proving that Evan Dobelle has .never held one job for as long as one two-year term as mayor .would run, are to be foupd only in issues of The Berkshire Eagle. These facts are accurate if The Eagle is accurate.I also can buttress my statement that the claims Evan makes as to his credentials arc superficial. Evan claims to be a major in the CAP. I am sure that he is. The CAP is the Civil Air Patrol. It is an organization for young people between the ages of 14 and 18. It has no military significance, and the title of major is equivalent to scoutmaster.Evan also claims to be on the board of advisers at Berkshire Community College. He is. He was given that as a political appointment by a Republican governor little more .than a year 3go. The board of advisersLet’s ignore himTuihe Editor i»l THE EAGLE.—That man has finally outraged the entire country. But don't impeach him — ignore him. completely and totally. He is an arrogant egoist, not worth the bother ol impeachment. This would take up the valuable time of the members of Congress, who must keep this country running in spite ofhim.Let's ignore him until he goes away.lt; Mrs.) SUSAN B. IIAUPT Old Jug End Road South Egremonlmeets only four times a year, and so he could not have attended more than six meetings.Evan claims to be a member of the board of directors of the Consortium on Human Needs. He is. He joined about three months ago. after deciding to run for mayor.Evan claims to have been a teacher at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He was. He .taught an extracurricular, noncredit. course on how to win a political campaign, including the building of an image. Finally, the Commission on Campus Unrest is a defunct organization which lasted only three months in 1970. but Evan was part of it for only one month. The July 31 Eagle shows Evan being sworn in. while the Eagle of Oct. 6 says he left for California on Aug. 30.1970.* * *• Evan Dobelle has spent only two years of his adult life in Pittsfield after the age of 12. although he has used his father's home at 114 Ridge Ave. as his voting, address. It is upon ail of the above that I base my con-conclusions.JAMES M.
