KERRVILLE, KERR COHernandez Given99-Year Sentence In Murder CaseSlayer of Lopez Pleads Guilty; Court Term Nearing Close.Following his plea of guilty to a murder charge, Juan Hernandez was sentenced by a jury Wednesday morning in 38th District Court to serve 99 years in the State Penitentiary.Hernandez was charged by indictment with the fatal shooting of Julio Lopez, who was killed in the Mexican district on last July 28 after being called from a cafe. The case was called for trial last Thursday, but the defense at that time ■vyas granted a continuance on the plea that a material witness was missing. Wednesday morning when the case was reset, the missing witness was in court, having been brought here under attachment from Wingate, Texas, by Sheriff J. T. Moore.After a brief conference, the defendant entered a plea of guilty and a jury to assess punishment was empaneled from a special venire of 60 men. The State did not ask for the death penalty.Hernandez was represented by M. E. Gonzales, San Antonio attorney.. District Attorney K. K. Woodly was assisted by Judge Lee Wallace as special prosecutor.With disposal of the Hernandez case, the fall term of district court was nearing a close. But few more cases remain on the docket to be heard by Judge L. J. Brucks.A rare feature of the criminal docket during the present session is the fact that all of the defend-; ants who have faced the court have : entered pleas of guilty. Two defendants charged with op-i erating a motor vehicle while in-j toxicated entered pleas of guilty 1 during the week and both were given a fine of $50. They were Al-freda de la Rosa and 0. Webb.I After reporting two additional j indictments, making a total of 19 true bills for the term, the grand jury was discharged late Tuesday. Arrests have not been made in the new cases filed and their nature was not made public by court officials.A personal injury suit styled Margaret Gregg Ohlen, individual-: ly and as next friend for Lucy Go-ree Ohlen, vs. Hal Peterson was tried before a jury early in the week and resulted in a verdict for the defendant. Damages of $10,-000 were asked in the suit, filed following a motor bus accident.
