XKMA.Rain, greatly needed, has fallen almost constantlyfor tweuty-four hours.Bennett Lewis, one of the most influential and worthy citisens of Clifton and vicinity, died at his hbme Saturday evening. He was buried to*lt;iay. Mr. Lewis had expected to meet his daughter at Buffalo, N. Y., to-day. on her return from the Centennial. His death was sudden, his disease being pneumonia.James Ross, a teamster on the Narrow Uuage Railroad, was cut on the head, Sunday, by Sallie Vance, a colored woman of 111-fame, into whose house be was attempting to force an entrance. He was intoxicated. She bad shot at him twice, and then used a snade inflicting a cut of four inches in length and one and a half inches in depth. She was arrested by Marshal Hamer and is in jail.
