Ten Tetri for » Blard/rerPeoria Oct. 28 —la the circuit court today Phineas Stephens, who kilted Ike Ferguson, was sentenced to a term of ten 5 ears in the penitentiary. The verdict caused much surprise, as it was thought he would not receive over two years. The jury held that Stephens goaded his victim by taunts and abuse in order that he eould enter a plea ofself-defense.Berry Ayers, the negro who attempted to cut a woman’s throat and afterwardcut and stabbed two officers in a terrible manner, pleaded guilty today and was sent up for seven years.
