A Farmer Assaulted by a Footpad •Mr. Isaac Burge t, a teatustor who resides at Henrietta, Blair county, recently took his wife to Saxton, Bedford county, and after attending to some business there started to return home, but night overtook him. YV hen crossing the mountains ho overtook a man walking by the roadside- The stranger asked Mr. Burgefc where he was from, and ou being told that he was from the Cove, remarked that he was going thq same way tiucl would like to ride. Burgeb told him to jump ou. They had not proceeded'far when the strange man struck Btirgct with a club and-knocked him senseless. The assaulted party crime to his senses at daylight axicl fouud himself lying by the roadside, completely soaked with ruin and badly bruised about fcho dice, The assault was no doubt made for tho purpose of robbery, bub as Burget had discreetly concealed his pocket-book under tho straw in the wugou-bed when starting out, nopluudcr was obtained. The team remained standing ou the road where tho assault was commitcd.
