Second suspect sought in Davis caseBy MARK STUTZ and MIKE SWARTZAustin police Tuesday continued the search for a second suspect in the murder of Carolyne Kay Davis, who was found shot in Town Lake Saturday night.Police and family friends have confirmed that a high school ring and two hunting rifles allegedly belonging to Davis’ boyfriend and taken from her apartment were found in the car of one suspect, convicted killer CharlesHenry Rector.Rector, 27, is being heldwithout bond in the Austin city jail. Rector has been charged with capital murder in the abduction and shooting of Davis.Rector was convicted of murder in 1974 and was paroled Feb. 5 after serving seven years of a 14-year sentence.Lisa Raumaker, a childhood friend of Davis’, said the guns belonged to Davis’ boyfriend, who she would identify only as a University engineering student named Mark. She said Mark was an avid hunter and collector of guns.“She and Mark were veryhappy together,” Raumaker said. “We went out just a week ago, and she told me, ‘Lisa, I’ve never been so happy.’ But she also told me she was very scared and that she was afraid something terrible was going to happen to Markor her.”Police found jewelry in Rector’s car, including Davis’ 1978 Anderson High School ring.Davis was abducted as she was bringing a bag of groceries into her apartment, police said. There were no open windows, and part of her apartment had been ransacked, police said.Rector was arrested after a fingerprint technician working inside Davis’ apartment shortly after the abduction saw Rector outside the apartment, said Sgt. Gary Fleming of the Austin Police Department. Rector fled in his car but was arrested around midnight Saturday after a short chase, Fleming said.Davis’ body was found near Tom Miller Dam in Town Lake Sunday. The Travis County medical examiner’s office established the cause of death was a gunshot woundabove the rieht ear.
