One of - j the shirts, the one worn under-k !l?ath waH °* a HlClit gray material ; I he outer shirt was what is usually 5 j called a blue work shirt. It was parti) missing, either having been ;torn off at the time of the murder [ j or possibly by some wild animals. I There was nothing about the shirt . to distinguish it from any other t work shirt. The shoes were a good pair of tan dress shoes size about No. 8 or 9. They were in a good state of preservation, the j strings not even being rotted. The M shoes were of the low cut variety ► with ornamental leather tips on the toes The knife appeared to be of oreign make, having a long thin blade, taping to a needle-like point. Hones Gathered Fp.Failing to find the skull Coroner lt;aid well gathered up the bones and placed them in one of the burlap sacks. The shoes and clothes were j Placed in another. Charles Walther telegraph editor of The News, who accompanied the coroner, carried the hones on his hack out of the i swamp, while the coroner carried the clothing. When the journey from rhe swamp was started, nearly a hundred men fell into single ; ine, and followed the path out to the railroad.
