REESE WHO GIVES SELF UPPURVIS EDITORS, AS RESULT OF LONG STANDING DIFFERENCES, IN FATAL ROW.KILLING IS WITNESSED BY A NUMBER OF BY STANDERSBad Blood Is Said To Have Existed Between the Pair For Months—This Culminated Whpn They Met at Purvis Court House This Afternoon, And Discussed Letting Contract For Printing Election Tickets—Hearing Today.As the culmination of n series of arguments and troubles between the two men, covering a period of several months, Wiley A. Blackburn, editor of the Progress Star, published at Purvis, is dead there this afternoon, and Ir. Sain Reeso, editor of the Purvis Booster, is locked up in the Lamar county jail, charged with the killing.Both men are prominently connected in Lamar county, and are well known in Forrest county and in Hattiesburg.Dr. Reese will be given a preliminary hearing this afternoon or tomorrow morning.The direct cause of the killing. It is said, was the question of which of the printing establishments was to receive ihe contract for printing the ballots to be used In the November elec lions.While there was no eye witness to the killing, several persons saw parts of the affair.I)r. Reese, who is locked up, 1b said j to be taking the affair coolly. The excitement in PurviB following the shooting has died down, telephone messages from there this afternoon stated.Blackburn was fired at four times by Ir. Reese, each bullet taking effect. His death was instantaneous. Dr. ReeBe made no effort to get away, but walked Into the Sheriffs office, in front of which the killing occurred, and surrendered.The killing occurred dt exactly 12:05 o'clock this afternoon.(Continued on Page Six.)
