Ulster deputizes 26 for Halloween patrolBy PETER KUTSCHERA Staff WriterNAPANOCH - The Ulster County Sheriff’s Dept, is deputizing 26 local residents — many of them guards at Eastern Correctional Facility — in preparing for expected troubleraaking by youthful trick or treaters here on Halloween.The move, prompted at the request of the Wawarsing Town Board, is aimed at preventing areoccurence of vandalism last year by a crowd of young persons who shattered windows, started bonfires and in two instances, ripped front porches off homes and used them to barricade a highway.Supervisor Frank D. Sahler, who is coordinating the effort, said Thursday “for the past five years Napanoch has been a haven for these troublemakers, but last year we reached the apex, the situationhouse to arraign anyone arrested. • Sahler said Wawarsing’s other judge, Joseph Polonsky, will also be “on call if needed.”— Augmenting police . surveillance of the area with sixtroopers from the Wawarsing state police barracks and six sheriffs deputies who, the supervisor continued, will be making regular foot and auto patrols in the hamlet.— Implementing a strict 9 p.m. curfew for minors.— Cooperating with local . citizen’s band radio clubs so ham \ radio users can report instantly any vandalism to police.Lt.
