Juan Hernandez Goes to Trial on ; Slaying ChargeTwo Plead Guilty and Draw 5-Year Terms for Robbery.1. . *- -Juan. Hernandez, charged by Indictment with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Julio Lopez, went on trial in the 38th District CotJrt Thursday morning. A special venire of 60 men has been summoned to appear for jury service iri the case.The grand jury returned an indictment against Hernandez Monday, charging him with murder. Lopez was called from a cafe inthe Mexican section and shot todeath on the morning of July 28. Hernandez later appeared at the office of Sheriff J. T. Moore and aurrendered.Five convictions were obtained in criminal cases tried early thisweek,, Alfred Prevost, negro, entered a plea of guilty to robbery and a jury fixed his punishment at five years in the State prison. It was alleged that Prevoid: and a companion held up Alex Monroe, a visitor from Bandera County, and relieved him of $60 in cash. The LoluUp occurred on the night of August 31, near the Southern Pacific turn table. P. S. Sorrells, another negro youth, under indictment in connection with the same robbery, also entered a plea of guilty and was sentenced to serve five years in the penitentiary at Huntsville.T. J, Moore, negro, charged with fo’kery and passing a forged instrument, entered a plea of guilty and was given a suspended sentence of five years. Moore is alleged to have passed a forged cheek on M. W. Poole, Kerrville merchant,'On his plea of guilty, Guy Bridges, charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, was sentenced to serve 60 days in the Kerr County jail.Another plea of guilty to driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated was entered in court Wednesday morning by Albert Caraway. The jury assessed the penalty at 60 days in jail and a fine of $100. A case of failure to stop and render aid after an automobile accident, lodged against the defendant was dismissed.
