HARRIS ON THE WITNESS STAND TODAY TELLING TALEAll interest today in the Seiber murder trial, centered in the testimony of Harris, who is charged with the crime.Yesterday afternoon a number of Harris’ freinds and neighbors were placed on the stand to testify to the general good character of Harris. The first: witness this morning was Joe Harris. The crowd which was in the court room waited with the most breathless interest upon every word he said.He was quizzed by Counsel Goudy for the defense up until the time he loft Seiber in the pasture of the Seiber cattle company, after riding with him for some distance. From this point he told his story without questioning, without any dramatic features about it, but in the most common place way.Ho asid that he resided at Wost-wator and that ho had worked out occasionally to help obtain money sufficient to improve his ranch.He had worked for the Webster City cattle company and had worked one time for the Seiber Cattle company. He had held various official positions, among them being school director and deputy sheriff of Grand county, Utah. Certificates of appointment were placed in evidence from Frank Schaeffer of Grand county, Utah, that he had been a deputy s her iff Some one had voted for him for constable, but lie had never qualified. Ho was in the employ of the Seiber Cattle company from February 1st up until the flfch of August, four years ago.He had met Mr. Seiber eight years ago. He was well acquainted with Jim .Tone*, didn’t know Dunnan very well, didn’t know as he had ever spoken to him. The Seiber Cattle company ranged their cattle on PinonM-»sa down within about ton miles of Westwater.“They crossed at least four places at Westwater, usually at the lower end of the valley, about four miles from my home camp. They caused lots of trouble to me, they would tear down my fence and cross without permission. When they last crossed my place, believe they crossed the lower end, last fall.“My cattle ranged around my cabin the entire year. I never ranged my cattle on the Seiber range.’’Besides the above puite considerable other testimony was elicited bearing on the treatment of his range by the Seiber Cattle company.From the time of the 18th of August up until the time of the killing on the 22nd of August, every act almost in the daily life of Harris was given the jury. He left with hisbrother John on that day to drive some horses on the way to Durango.“As I knew the trail very well I went with him to show him the way.I knew the country very well and he wanted me to go with him. The first day we went as far as the Sleeper ranch. It was the winter ranch. The distance we [traveled I think is called about twenty miles.^0 Stayed over night there.
