He claims that officer Knapp assaulted him on the way to the station house by striking him and knocking him off the sidewalk and then drawing his pis-tol, thus compelling him (Rankin) to shoot to save his own life. Rankin's father has employed Msj W. R Kinney, of Louisville, and Alex. Dowling, Esq., of this city, as his attorneys, and the case will be fought in the courts by Rankin to the last extremity. Rankin is now in jail at Louisville, where he has been since his arrest at 1 o'clock Monday morning. It was staled to-day that he would voluntarily come to this £clty Wednesday and enter into bond for his appearance to answer at a preliminary examination, or would waive preliminary examination and give bond for his appearance to answer in the circuit court. Officer Knapp will not be able to appear as a witness at a preliminary examination for a couple of weeks. It*is fully determined by the wounded officer and his friends to prosecute Rankin vigorously.kusski.i/s caj'E disposed or.Yesterday Robert L.
