Defense Rests in Trial of 4 Over Beating DeathThe defense rested Friday in the trial of four young men accused of the gang beating death of an attorney’s son outside the Hollywood Palladium last March.Only one of the accused testified in his own defense at the trial, which began last month with selection of a jury of seven men and five women.He is Ricardo Sims IS, a former track star at Washington High School Sims on the witness stand Thursday denied that he was involved in the killing of Robert Ballou 16, a football player at Los Angeles High School and the son of a local attorney.Ballou was killed on March 20 when he and other young people were leaving a rock concert at the Palladium.He was beaten and stomped to death during a scuffle across the street from the theater when a gang of about 20 boys tried to take away the jackets of young people leaving the concert.Other defendants are James Cunningham 19, Bobby L. Crear 21 and Judson D. Bacot 22.The prosecution was expected to call one rebuttal witness when the trial resumes Monday in the c o u r troom of superior judge William B. Keene.
