SlayingTrial ofFrancis D Hotel Soli Encino Co*Two OpensSAN FRANCJSC The sale of the[Drake Hotel to PriTwo young men went on trial Tuesday in Los Angeles for the murders of three persons dur* mg robberies and the robbery of two others.Robert Victor Ovieda and Alex John Cuevas, both 21, are accused of murdering two men as they lay on the floor of a Whittier market during a robbery last Feb. 17.They are accused atso of the killing of a 15-year-old clerk at a drive-in dairy in South San Gabriel three days later.First witness at the trial, John G. Coppes, 46, of Whittier, identified the two men as the robbers who took his wallet and his wife’s purse outside a Montebello restaurant Feb. 14.He said the men were armed with knives, one a switchblade, and they took his car keys, but dropped tliem on the parking lot so he could drive home.Some of the contents of Coppes’ wallet were recovered later from the defendants' homes, deputy district attorney Harold Prukop told the jury in = his opening slatemcnl.The faiaLrobheries netted a total of about $300.
