Police ID man shot in robberyNORTHGLENN (AP) - Police yesterday identified a man shot to death by officers during a bungled robbery attempt at a shopping center here Wednesday night as a 21-year-old ex-convict.The suspect was identified as Jay Phillip Tallman, a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was paroled from the state prison at Rifle on Sept. 19, said Northglenn Police Lt. Charles S. McGee.Tallman had lived in the Denver area prior to the robbery attempt and had attended Chatfield High School in the Denver area for a short time in 1985, police said.McGee said Tallman was arrested in 1988 for an automobile theft offense.State Department of Corrections Spokeswoman Liz McDonough said Tallman had served a sentence at Rifle for auto theft.Tallman and a man police said was his accomplice in the robbery attempt, Brian Walton, 34, served time together at Rifle.
