Bachelor killed in IndyINDIANAPOLIS (UPI) — Police said a bachelor who kept to himself was beaten to death in the bedroom of his fashionable north side Indianapolis house, possibly by someone who knew him.The victim was identified as John J. Smith Jr., 50. His body was discovered by a fellow employee at Detroit Diesel Allison Wednesday after Smith failed to report to work.Detectives believe the attack was sometime Tuesday night.Smith was bound with acoat hangar, sheets, two belts and a telephone cord.Investigators said from the amount of discoloration, it appeared he had been hit repeatedly with a blunt instrument in the face or possibly kicked in the face until he died.Deputy Coroner Morris Settles termed the killing “sadistic looking.”Police said Smith apparently knew his attacker since there were no signs of forced entry, and they ruled out robbery as a motive.
