Main YMCA And Its Branchfo Start Classes This WeekClass time is arriving again t both the Danville YM-CA and le North Danville Branch MCA.At the Danville “Y” on Main t., six physical education in-rmal classes will be begin-ing in the next several days.At the North Danville Branch, series of informal classes in wide range of interests is etting set to start.Beginning tomorrow at the )anville “Y” Is a men’s fitness lass. The class will be offered rom 12 to 12:30 p.m., Monday, 'uesday, Wednesday and Fri-lay. It consists of basic condi-ioning exercises to take inches ►ff the waistline or just to lose i few pounds. The class Ls free o members; $4 for non-mem-ers. It will be taught by Glen lyrd, physical director.Beginning Oct. 19, a class in ifesaving and water safety will e taught by Byrd and A1 Pine-lt;enstein, Red Cross aquatic instructor, The class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. The fee is $3.60 for Y” members and $7.60 for non-members.A slim nasties class for women will begin Oct. 20 and continue for eight weeks. The class, meeting from 7 to 8 p.m., will be taught by Byrd. The fee is 25 cents per lesson for social members, $4 for non-members.A ladies swimming class will be held at the same time with free swimming to follow from 8 to 9 p.m. The fee, for eight weeks of instructions, is $5. So^ cial members can pay 25 cents per lesson.Also scheduled to start Oct. 20 is a class in judo—the art of self-defense—for men and women. The instructor will be John Martin of the local police department. The fee is $3 for members; $6 for non-members.A men's beginner swimming class is slated to begin Oct. 19 and will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A fee of $5 will be charged for non-members; the class is free for members.At the North Danville YMCA, ail classes for adults are for both men and women; those for students are open to [boys and girls.Beginning Monday will be a class in conversational French for aduits. The class will enable its participants to acquire a speaking knowledge of French and learn the rudiments of French grammar and pronunciation. The fee is $6.Wednesday will mark the beginning of a class for adults in an introduction to world history. Donald E. Layne of the Dan River High . School faculty will be the instructor, with eight weeks of instruction—8 to 9 p.m.—planned. The fee will be $8.Also on Wednesday, a class in music appreciation for aduits will meet for the first of eight weekly sessions from 7 to 8 p.m. The instructor will be the Rev. Morgan S. Smart of Trinity Methodist Church, a certified minister of music. The fee is $8.A class in conversational Spanish—limited to 20 adults— will hold its first session from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Maurice Cherry of the department of language, George Washington High School, will be the instructor.
