Nab Transient IniAct Of RansackingLake Byron CabinDonald Ayers, 20, Also Implicated In Theft Of Cars At Pierre And Aberdeen; Holdup Fails At Filling: Station.rdIcDonald Ayers, 1:0, transient farm hand, who was caught in the act ot burglarizing a cottage at Lake Byron last night, was to be arraigned in municipal court here this afternoon on a charge of third^ degree burglary.While county officers were working on the Ayers case, Huron police today were seeking three men who attemptedto rob the Hanson Service station, Terflh street and Dakota avenue, north, last night but who were frustrated when Berle Hanson, one of the proprietors, opened fire on them.Ayers, who broke into a cottage belonging to Clifford Brumwell, also admitted the theft of automobiles at Pierre artd Aberdeen, according to State’s Attorney Leo A. Temmey who questioned him today.He was lodged in the county jail last • ] night when turned over to authorities by Brumwell and Russell Stewart, another Lake Bvron cottage owner.Caught In ActBrumwell told authorities he caught Ayers ransacking his cottage about 7 p. m. yesterday. He had several articles in a car and was about to leave when Brumwell drove up. Leather had been removed from a davenport in the cabin.Noticing that the lock had been broken and the door left ajar on his cabin, Brumwell got the shotgun he had been using for pheasant hunting.The mar/ came out of the door, gun in hand, but he quickly surrendered when he saw that Brum watt had the drop on him. Stewart was summoned from a nearby cottage, and the two men brought Avers to Huron.Originally From IndianaAyers told the state’s attorney that he came to ihis vicinity from Indiana and worked as a farm hand on the John De^Ver farm near Huron in the summer of 1931.He admitted the theft of a car, belonging to Frank Schwab ot Mina, S. D., which he abandoned near Hitchcock on the night of September 3, State's Attorney Temmey said.It also was learned that the car Ayers was using when captured at the lake was stolen Tuesday njght at Pierre.Lamps, dishes, clothing and many other articles taken from the Brumw'ell cabin were packed in Ayers’ car. It was reportsd he admitted stealing the car from in front of the capitol building at Pierre Tuesday night.Believe One HitIt was believed today that one of the trio which attempted to rob the Hanson Service station may have been struck by one of the bullets which was fired in thwarting the robbery.The Chevrolet coach, stolen from Ed Fuglsang last night and used in the attempted hold-up, was found today near the Swift and company plant. There were three bullet holes in it.When the three would-be robbers drove up to the service station, one remained in his car, while another entered the sta- i eg tion through the front door and the other sought entrance through a rear door.
