Hogg, a pretty blonde girt, aged 17 years, that seems to be shrouded ijt mystery. The girl, who lives with her married sister, Mrs. Robert Maxwell, at 179G Agnes street, Northstoe, which is well within the limits of the so-called murder zone in Cumminsville, stepped Into the rear yard shortly after 7 o’clock last evening to empty a pan of ashes.Her brother-in-law and sister and a brother, Albert Hogg, remained seated in the kitchen, and after a wait of nearly half an hour the two men became alarmed at the absence of Lena and went out to search for her. Maxwell stumbled over ber unconscious form at the door of a small frame building ii\ the back yard.The girl was lying Insensible and a red handkerchief had been tightly bound about her mouth, effectually gagging her. There was a noticeable odor of some drug about the handkerchief when she was found, but which quickly evaporated.Lena was carried into the house and Drs. Nlppert and Swartsel were summoned, who labored with the unconscious girl for an hour before she came back to her senses.She then stated that two men had Jumped from behind the laundry building, had grabbed her and struck., her on the head and choked her Into unconsciousness. She does not remember of the handkerchief being placed over her mouth and could give no description of the men.The young woman verged on the hysterical while relating her story to the reporters, police and physicians and stated that she had had a terrible experience while passing through the Shawnee lumber yards yards at Agnes btreet and the C., H. D. tracks last Friday night. - ...What this, experience was no amount of persuasion was sufficient to induce her to relate. At the outset the brother-in-law, sister and' brother of Lena treated the matter lightly, but they soon beoame serious and stated they would move out of the neighborhood.Qn-the. girl’s -dress was pinned a-note, scrawled in pencil on rough note paper bearing the words:“I hope I have fixd you good and proper this time. S.—-The one you never liked.*The relatives, police and neighbors are at sea as to who committed the aasault. and Northsl’de last night was aga4n r seeth4% with the uncanny feeling that always pervades the murder eone when a woman has been attacked. The epirl Is an orphan and ber relatives say she is quiet, rarely goes to social affairs and knows but few young men.There was no attempt at a criminal assault and as it was known the girl had no money there is no apparent motive for the crime. Dr. Eld ward Nlppert was seen last night and said that the girl’s; Injuries consisted of bruises about the throat where she- had been choked and a* slight wound on the head. She Is suffering severely from the nervous shock attendant upon the attack, but Is in danger.Dr. S. C. Swartsel' corroborated Dr. Nlppert’s statement add said that the girl was lying face downward with the handkerchief botind about her face, ac-, cording to the story told him by her relatives.
