Bacchus saw Mrs. Weieiiert and 'rushing^ at her ordered her - from the ground. The woman started/to run when Bacchus struck herover the head with a: gun and knockedher to the ground. He then stood over her and' was preparing to shoot her when a number of women residing in Chinatown ran to the scene and began .to scream. This startled Bacchus and before he could turn upon Mrs. Welch-ert again she had sought shelter amongthe women from Chinatown.Mrs, Wc'ioh^rt was attended by aphysician at tjie police station and a gash in herscalp more than three inches long was sewed up. She. ther, swore to a, complaint against the aged negro,, charging him with assault with intent ^o;:k!ll.Judge Bell stated this afternoon thathe believed! Bacclius is erasty and that he should bo examined by a board OS insanity commissioners. This la the third time within a year that Bacchus has tried to commit murder.
