ANOTHER EFFORT WILL BE MADE FOR BARDON.Austin, Texas,—Judge L. J. Storey has presented three long and very strong petitions to Governor Lanbara requesting him to use his influence with the governor ofChihuabua; Mex ico, to pardon Mack Stewart, now confined in a dungeon in that state. These petitions were accompanied by an elo-quent letter urging the Gover nor to act.Stewart, it will be remember ed killed a Mexican constable years ago under what was thought to be exasperating circumstances. He was conhn ed in jail for six or seven years before the case came to trial, w*as convicted, and has now been in jail eight years under sentence originally for life, but now reduced to 20 years.Mack Stewart was born and reared in Caldwell county,Texas, and Judge Storey knows him well from bis boyhood. Not only so, but knew the family. He says he made a gallant Confederate soldier and has served his state and country well.His long confinement has wrecked and shattered his health and is thought to be sufficient punishment for his crime. Unless pardoned and releaced his death is only aquestionot short time, so it is said by those who know.
