But-•j3. ler, is a stock dealer, who lives there.Some six weeks ago the girl notified te. Manlove that she was in a delicate condition and that he was responsble at for the same. This matter came to the 7 ears of the young man’s father, who thought perhaps the affair was a “set er- UP job.” He went to the girl’s parents about three week’s ago and told -)D. them that, if they would t ike their daughter to a medical man for exarn-gj. inn lion and he found her to be in the 7 condition she claimed she was, that he would have his son, Earl, marry ■jm her at once. This the Elder Manlove claims the girl’s parents refused to do, so the matter was dropped as far as he was concerned. The indictment upon which Earl was arrested charges him with “a itempting to produce a miscarriage by the use of drugs.” Further particulars as to whether he is charged with administering them himse’f or whether he sent them to the girl to use we have been unable to learn.It is said the;:girl is in a critical condition from the use of the drugs and is not likely to recover. Mr. Manlove, the senior, went to New Castle this afternoon and will endeavor to secure his son’s release from custody. Young Manlove is a studious young man and supposed to be of good habits. He was a member of the High school graduating class of ’96 and acquitted hinself with credi t. He is twenty years of age.
