Hinkle Gets99 YearsHOUSTON (AP) — Kenneth Howard Hinkle. 38. a former convict, has been sentenced to 99 years and one day in prison alter being convicted of the last Jan. 2! slaying of a Houston patrolmanA district court jury returned the punishment verdict Tuesday-after deliberating two hours and 15 minutes. The same jury of ten men and two women took anhour and 25 minutes Mondav to*find Hinkle guilty of murder in the slaying of policeman Louis L. Sander. 24.Dist Attv. Carol S. Vance had asked for the death penalty and expressed disappointment thatthe jury failed to return it “From the sentence I would say the jury apparently did not realize that he will be eligible for parole when he receives 20 years credit, and a trusty gets double credit for the time heserves.” Vanee saidHinkle claimed he was innocent and his attornevs said thev* •»would appeal.
