DES MOINES MAN SENT TO ANA-MOSA INSTEAD FOR TEN YEARS.HAPPENINGS OVERTHE STATEGeneral News of Iowa Collected and Condensed from Many Sources that Will Prove of Interest to Our Readers.Des Moines.—Judge W. H. McHenry of the criminal division of the district court, sentenced Glen McGill, self confessed thief, to the Anamosa reformatory for ten years because, as he expressed it, “to send a man to the county jail for a year is too cruel for any use.” McGill had .pleaded guilty to stealing a coat.‘‘Ordinarily I would punish you by Imposing a sentence of tw-elve months in the county jail, but under present conditions that would be too inhuman for me to do,” said Judge McHenry.‘‘Looking at it from a humanitarian standpoint, I am going to send you to the reformatory at Anamosa for ten years, as the law does not permit to give you a shorter prison sentence. But at the end of the first year I will petition the board of parole to release you.”May Not Get Government Highway.
