Carolyn loved to travel, and visited many parts of the world, including over 26 countries in 5 continents. Carol was an enthusiastic adventurer, and traveled the back streets and bazaars of Istanbul, Turkey for leather crafts, as well as remote areas of Turkey near the Iranian border for hand woven Turkish carpets. Carolyn fell in love with Turkey and sailed the Aegean Sea on Archeological projects with Barthwatch. She rode elephants in Thailand and horses in Ireland, and she was involved in an Barthwatch project studying toque macaques in Sri Lanka. , Carolyn thrived on the learning and excitement that travel brings. Carolyn's favorite city was Paris.Her love of animals was an important part of her life, especially horses and cats (and particularly Siamese). She worked as a volunteer during the annual Tevis Cup 100 mile ride, which she hoped to complete some day. She loved training her horses, but above all, just enjoyed their company. Carol loved all of Nature; trees, flowers, (especially orchids), and was an eager wildlife observer. She loved spreading birdseed on the patio near her French doors so that she could watch the various birds up close and personal. Her favorite backyard birds were Nuthatches, Juncos and wild Turkeys.
