Va. Their booty was taken from mail cars and, according to reports received here, it was believed to be large.The train was due at Parkersburg at 1 a. m_, and an hour later Kngineer Grant Helms saw two masked men climbing over the coal on the tender, each carryingan automatic shotgi n.They called to him not to move and a minute later one of the men ordered Helms to cut off the en-glne and through mail from the remainder of the train, and forced him to run two miles to the west. There the engineer and fireman were forced to leave theengine.One of the masked men then took the throttle and, as though well acquainted with the operation of the engine, ran the traina mile or two farther.Here the robbers went through the mail car, which they looted completely, and, deserting the train made off into the hills.OFFICERS IX SEARCH.Clarksburg. Oct. 8-—Baltimore Ohio officials here quickly took up the j hunt when they were informed of the} train robbery at Central station, and a thorough search for the robbers is being made.The county officials were informed;hat the rolbers secured from the mail ca,r about one hundred registered ^ckages and ninety packages of un-Tgned bank notes being sent fromWashington to banks in the middle• ■west.The value of the currency was estl- | mated at $500,000.POSSE CHASES FOl'R.Clarksburg. Oct. 8.—Telephonemessages received here soon after noon said that a sheriff's posse with bloodhounds had sighted four men in he foothills near Central station and were chasing them.They are believed to be members ofthe gang, two of whom robbed B. O. train No. 1 near Central stationearly today.
