The Dade County grand jury indictment charged 12 counts of operation of gambling, but the exact substance of the indictments was not revealed.The indictment of Traum and Ills associates As part of a general investigation and cleanup of gambling in Florida which has brought indictment and suspension of a number of sheriffs and other officials. Sheriffs have been indicted and ousted in Broward County, just north of Miami: in Polk County and Okaloosa County.+ + +TRAUM is a survivor of the pic-j turesque prohibition era of the 1 twenties and early thirties, when) his name frequently was linked j with rum-running and allied ac-; tivities. Mdre recently he estab-j lished himself locally as .proprie- j tor of a Wabash Avenue restaurant, now out of business.He now is reputedly the. proprietor of the swank gambling and supper club known as the Manor House at Thirteenth Street and Margaret Avenue.Shortly after Jan. 1 following; the general election of 1949, the Manor House, other “private clubs”Terre Haute were closed for a number of weeks until word was passed that operations could be resumed. The clubs and books have since carried on without interruption.+ + +CLUB 86 at 8600 Biscayne Boulevard was an operation conducted by an organization known as the Miami Syndicate composed in the main of Miami and Dade County gamblers. Some interests in the organization were from New Jersey and Shreveport, La., but Traum was reported to be the only Hoosier in the syndicate. It is said here that his interest was about one-tenth.The indictment was returned Sept. 19.
