It was a smooth deal and the fellows made their getaway before Quinsland was aware of his loss. It is not likely they will be caught. The swindle was worked after the following manner: A fellow came to the Quinsland farm east of town some days previous t,o. the affair looking for work. He was given a job. A few days later a second fellow came along claiming to be looking for a farm to purchase. He didn't want to pay a land.agent’s commission so he induced' Quinsland. to drive him over the country.- The hired man -went*,along. In the' course of their travels a deck of playing cards was.produced and the hired man and land seeker got'into a game of cards. The hird man won considerable of the other stranger’s money, who finally offered to stake $5000 against $3000 of the hired man's money. The hired man did hot „ have near $3,000 but Quinsland agreed to go to the Holmes bank and get the money to back his hired man. Quinsland and his man ,won the bet, whereas the land seekergot noi3y and bewailed the loss of all ’his coin. The hired man explained to Quinsland that the fellow must be gotten away for fear he would report them for'taking his money. So it was agreed between Quinsland and his hired man that the money would be put in a tin box, - Quinsland to take the box and the hired ftian the key,-and the hired man was to hustle the land seeker out of ;the ..community, A few days later Quinsland received a letter thru the mail containing the , key to the box. jUpon opening the box he found, only a f)alt;;kage of papers. He was buncoed, and -the two strangers were gone with ‘all the money.—Goldfleld Chronicle.
