Butts, city marshal of Covington, in the discharge of his duty, had his right arm so badly shattered by a riHe hall, to save his life, ampu-Cation at the shoulder was resorted to. John Thom peon, who succeeded Butts in the office, was shot and killed in the dusk of the evening, at the Covington approach of the suspension bridge. There was no clue to the murder, and the mystery which surrounded the11 tragedy has never been unvailed.Some eighteen months since the city 1 marshal of Mt.
