Both men are well-known residents of Fairland and the father of Stewart lives a mile and a half e;ajst of Fairland. Neither of the contents of the two loads in the gun took effect.* 4According to statements made by residents of Fairland, the trouble Is of eight or nine months* standing, but never before has the feud reached such a dangerous point The participants in the trouble are brothers-in-law, Tillison having married a sister of Stewart. That doesjf^not seem to cause the trouble, as it -e is said by persons well acquaintedns-telewith the. two men that Stewart, who is married and separated from his wife, declares Tillison guilty of breaking up his home and for that r- reason the two have been the bitterest of enemies. Not very long ago, Stewart be-!gcame greatly enraged at Tillisona.^and threatened to do him injury byY,shooting him, but friends of thes. two men interfered and had the for-j^mer to think it over until he decided\\ to- put the matter off for a while. ,y Mrs. Stewart is now making her n home in this city.E\•.With Mr. Tillison this morning ) '.was Alex McClain, of Fairland. As he did so,. 4 • *3 his partner slid down the opposite q side of the wagon. Stewart came out e 'of the gate and started around the- rear end of the wagon and as he did so placed the gun to his shoulder* |[ and fired, the contents passing over Tillison’s head. The latter fell, but- jumped up and started to run, when , Stewart fired again, this time the t contents striking the ground near 3 the fleeing man’s feet. Tillison fell• 41 again, but got up and ran across a- small woods pasture to the Michigan] i 3 road. Mr. McClain stated that neith- ler Stewart nor Tillison spoke a word• to each other, but that Stewart stat-. ed to him after the shooting that he.; meant no harm to him (McClain).• Tillison, after making his way to• the Michigan road, was picked up by his brother, Sid Tillison, who hap-• pened to be on his way to Fairland iri a buggy. The former went to his: office in Fairland and Dr. M. M....• Wells was called, but found ' noi •wounds. Tillison had thought all . the time up until the examinationthat he had been shot.•The reports of the gun frightened . the horses hitched to the wagon and they ran away, but did no damage. Mr. Stewart had not been arrestedi• #up until time for press.] Following the shooting it was reported that Tillison had been shot by Stewart and that the gun wounds) S would probably prove fatal.Mr. Tillison came to this city late this afternoon and filed two affidavits ■ against Mr. Stewart One of them charges him with assault and bat- v tery and the other with pointing a G deadly weapon. The charges were h filed in the court of Justice Webb and a warrant for the arrest of Stewart was issued. In speaking about the case this afternoon, Mr. Tillison stated that Stewart loaded his shotgun again after firing the two shots and pursued him in the hope of getting another shot at him.3Ct£taFstcTnVRev.
