The three men with him, unarmed, fled.Other troopers soon converged on the scene. Bloodhounds were brought in to trace the soldier when he was not found in the cabin but the dogs lost the trail.Thrrd Trooper Death It was the third state trooper slain on duty in 30 days, the Harrison, Ark.f paper says, and the authorities were up in arms. Road blocks were set up and maintained for three days. Nothing developing, it was presumed Speeglewas hiding in the hill* and watch rt}. was set on his usu^l haunts and •on I roads of the area.Investigation revealed that Crook wras last seen in Yellville on Thursday. On Sunday a posse was formed to search for him and the shallow grave with his body was found 300 yards down the slope from the cabin.. Location of relatives provided a task. Last Tuesday night the undertaker there called police here trying to seek some information about him- The two sons at Pittsburg Otear Delphi) and Chicago were then located and both went there Wednesday. They are Joe and Charles Ward. Both returned to Flora yesterday.They reported the Arkansas countryside up in arms.
