Texans head church split groupBy BILL ALNORSunday Times Staff Writer The Church of Our Saviour in Concordville is going through a major church split and a new church has formed in the Avondale area.The church, which will be affiliated with the 11,000-member Church on the Rock near Dallas, will be pastored by two men the Rev. Frederick Drummond expelled from his controversial church several weeks ago after atwo-month visit to South Afica.Drummond expelled the men, Robert Cooper and Ross Macmillan, after they and others in the church decided to confront the minister over alleged financial irregularities in the church and over Drummond’s alleged domination of church members lives.Since the expulsions, an estimated 35 people have left the church and more may be on their way outH the Sunday Times has learned.Among those to leave were Paul and Roberta Poole, former small group coordinators—at Drummond’s church. Both w»nw from the Church on the Rock in Texas, responding to a call from Drummond who was trying to obtain an endorsement from the well-known Texas church.Instead it backfired, said Cooper. The church in Texas now wishes to have nothing to do with Drummond and the Church of Our Saviour.“Dr. (Larry) Lea (of the Texas church) knew there was something wrong with the Church of Our Saviour when we came up here,” he said. But since Drummond was seeking the church’s endorsement the two were supposed to assist the church and determine if it was sound.
