IHElil-OLB KILLER TB13CLAIM SELF-DEFENSEUNION, MO., Nov. 30.-—(AP)— Self-defense was expected to be the . plea of Chester Lynch, 16-year-old | boy, whose trial on a charge of murdering Lafe Jett at Pacific, August 28, was on the circuit court calendar for today.Jett, who worked in St. Louis, was visiting his parents. While talking | on the main street with Ruth Pitt, j 18, and her brother, the conference was interrupted by the appearance of Lynch, who snapped a wet handkerchief at the young woman. He refused to stop and Jett ordered him away.Several hours later Jett was at the station when Lynch appeared, carrying a shotgun. Several bystanders said they saw ,'jynch point the gun at Jett and say “If you take another step Til kill you.”There wee a shot and Jett was fatally wounded near the heart. Lynch walked home and was playing a phonograph , hen police arrived and arrested him. Jett claims he shot in self-defense.
