Mrs. Matilda Estes, living on Grand avenue, her son, Elisha. Emma Gunsalia. Mrs. Fannie Wolfe, who liver on First street. Car) Hayward and Janies Farras, a Frenchman, were those who appeared before Mayor Harrows, in consequence of various unsavory charges.Mrs. Fannie Wolfe and ElishaEstes were charged with adultery. The woman, who was tirst heard, entered a plea of guilty after some lit-tie hesitation. She was sentenced to jail tor twenty days and fined ten dollars and costs which, added to the jail sentence imposed by the mayor, means . forty days of incarceration for her. The young man, who is but nineteen years old, plead not guilty, to the surprise of all. Officers El-wood, Frazier and Lewis were put ob the stand by the state and testified that they had arrested him in company with the woman in her home Saturday night, or rather early Sunday morning. He was found guilty and fined one dollar and costs, which means a term of eleven daysin Jail.Carl Hayward, who was arrested | 1u the Estes home and, according to I the officers, in a compromising situation with Mrs. Estes herself, enter-j ed a plea of guilty to the charge of associating with women of immoral |jcharacter. He was given a ten days* jail sentence with a fine of $10 and costa on top, which amounts to thirty clays of confinement.Emma Gunsalia, who was also arrested in the Estes home, was charged with associating. She admitted the truth of the charge and was fined ton dollars and costs and given a ten days’ jail sentence. Being without money her term in jail will probably be increased to the extent of tne fine and costs, which would make it thirty days.Mrs. Estes entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of keeping a house of ill fame. The three officers who made the raid testified as to the things they had seen and heard, tending to show that she was guilty. Mrs. Estes called one witness to testify in her defense, and asked that another be summoned, but the latter was out of the jurisdiction of the court and could not be summoned. The trial of the case, therefore, consisted of the evidence of the' four men. 'The accused woman was found guilty and sentenced to thirty daysin the county jail. In addition to this she was fined ten dollars and costs, amounting to twenty dollars, which, unless paid, will run her jail ^ sentence up to the high mark of flf-, ty days.
