DEATH OF MRS. MONTFORT.Estimable Burlington Woman Passed Away Suddenly Last EveningMrs. Mary Louisa Monfort died suddenly at nine o’clock last evening, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward L. Bernard, 1403 North Seventh street. Mrs. Monfort had been in good health up to the very time of her death. She retired to her room last evening, feeling perfectly well and in the best of spirits. A few minutes later she went into her daughter’s room and sat down near the fire, as she had often done before. Mrs. Bernard noticed that her mother’s breathing was very heavy, but in answer to her inquiry Mrs. Monfort only said that she was not well and that her breath was very short. The aged woman failed very rapidly from that moment, and in twenty minutes she had passed away. Death was caused by heart failure.In the death of Mrs. Monfort many Burlington people have lost a very dear friend. She was widely known, and loved by all who knew her. Being of a very bright and sunny disposition, Mrs. Monfort brought good cheer and happiness wherever she went. She was a tireless worker for good in the world. For a number of years she was actively connected with the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. Mrs. Dunham, with whom she was associated in this work, speaks in the very highest terms of Mrs. Monfort’s character. She was very active and energetic, and did much good. She was a noble woman, truly good and wholly devoted to her work in the world, which was making others happy.Mrs. Monfort was born in New York state in 1827, and came to Burlington in 1840, where she has since resided. Her husband’s name was Oscar Monfort, whom she married in New York. Mr. Monfort died twenty-two years ago. Four children survive Mrs. Monfort, namely: Mrs. Edward Bernard of this city, Mrs. Henry Carey of New York City, W. F. Monfort of Barstown, Ky., and A. W. Monfort of Chicago.The funeral services will be held at the residence of Mr. Edward Bernard Thurs lay morning at ten o’clock. The burial will be as Aspen Grove cemetery.
