BETHANY SOCIETY AGAINST HUNTING.Hone Thiff Detective*, Not Having Thieve* to Chaee, Will Make Hunten Hard to Catch.Farming is a serious business right now to the farmer. The Bethany Horse Thief Detective Society has joined ‘the ranks of the farmers who will not allow any hunting on their farms. This announcement was made today by the society over the signature of their secretary, 1!. E. Kbbeler. Seventy-two farmers are included in the society and to a man they are determined to stop hunters going on their places.The fanners, aside from the fact that they claim some careless hunters. have shot up live stock or menaced safety of human beings, do not think that their lands should be tramped over by hunting parties as farming ha* become a serious business in these days of high prices. Fires, they claim, have been started and damage done, and they also claim that valuable poultry has been shot hv some hunters who do not know' difference between wild and domesticated creatures, or perhaps do not care For this reason they have decided to shut out the whole tribe of hunters, regardless of what their past records for being careful are. The farmers claim it is in solf-de-fense.The society r^de a profit of f,f4.18 out of its last dance and donated tiiat to the Alton Chapter of the Red Cross.The treasurer was retained to have In it 11,103.07. F. R. Roberts was elected president: K. P. Maher, vice-president; If. E. Ebbeler, secretary.
