H.Qobble the decision of the circuit court of Sangamon oeunty was affirmed by the appellate court In this case Gobble had recovered $900 from Brewer lost on a “catch bet,” in which Brewer had acted aa stake holder, and in which Brewer had insisted on keeping the money. Both men arc Springfield gamblers. |John W* Jennings, who takes tho part of John Smith, the banker and grayhaired sport in the “City Directory,” has been sued in Chicago by his wife, Mary A. Jennings, for separate maintenance. She alleges that she wee married to Jennings in Rochester, N. Y., in 1854, and that he deserted her in 1878 and has contributed little to her support since then, though he has been receiving a good salary and lives in luxury. He was held in $1,000 on an ex rel writ.Louis W. H. Neebe interviewed the governor Saturday on the petition for the pardon of his brother, Oscar Neebe, the anarchist now in the Joliet penitentiary. He was accompanied by John N. Hill, foreman of tha grand jury which indietod Neebe, and E. 8. Dreyer, a member of the same body. The new petition which they brought with them was signed by all the members of the grand jury which indicted the anarchists. Tha governor listened with patience, but said nothing to indicate what his decision will be.
